Its Been A While

The holidays were just busy, but a good busy. There was time for breathing and just being in the moment. The weather hasn't been horrible here but I am ready for one of two things. Snow (one good storm with at least 6 inches) or (summer with warm sand between the toes). If we get the snow than I expect summer to come the next day!

I Have some finished knitted gift to show off to ya! I think everyone may of safely gotten there gifts.

This very fun to knit gift is called the Star Crossed Slouchy Beret. I may have to make one for myself! I loved the knitting and cables with it. It sits just right to. Great great hat!

This cute set is a infinity scarf called the Ripened Scarf for my mama and ear warmer called Center Row Lace Headband/Neck Warmer which is perfect for that bit of let over wonder yarn you have! I find it funny that preknitter I couldn't be bothered wearing any of this stuff and now I just keep saying to myself "i need to make myself one".

Now I am working on this cutie above which is called the Asterisk Hat. A fellow blogger and friend knitted it first and shared the link .

As for reading I am going to be starting" Wicked" . It is audio and this way I can knit and listen. I am not to good at the knitting and reading at the same time. I am going to start practicing. Linking over to Ginny at the Yarn along!

Here is H, G and N with footie Pj's . They loved them! I think I may have to pick up a few more pairs. The girls never seem to stay covered at night and I am constantly worried even at their ages that they aren't warm enough.

Here is a after the clean up and stuff missing from under the tree. I don't understand kids who put there new stuff away. As a little girl my stuff stayed under the tree until January 6th and my mother actually requested that we did it.

Did I mention we had celebrated another birthday! The Groom turned the big 40! Miss P our grandprincess was not letting that Cherry cobbler (the hubby doesn't like cake) out of her sight. Those two are thick at thieves!

An here is a quick shot of the flowers the hubby brought home for us girls. Of course the only flowers I could name were the white snap dragons and the rose. I think this year there will be flowers planted. I realized I do need them around!

I hope you all took your holiday slow, ate well and engraved the memories in you mind and heart deep.

Two weeks in review

The craziness of this time of year I love to a point. I do try to keep in mind the grace of God in the small things when things get crazy.I honestly don't know how I went so many years with out knitting. It just brings me back to my center with things are moving to fast.

These Tea Roses are living in my laundry room very happily. Come on how many people can smile walking into there laundry room?

Sleeping Maddie on soft blankets makes me smile. All the class in the world. What really makes me laugh is when knitting you picture a little person next to you holding the working yarn. But in my world this is what I get to knit next to .

This Cranberry Muffin recipe is absolutely delicious. I have made them for the third time with fresh cranberries and no complaints here every-time they come out of the oven.

My beautiful daughter G had her winter concert this week in school. It is amazing how much the kids have improved in the last month.

Than there has been lots of holiday knitting. I am linking to the yarn along over on Small Things.I will be sure to post finished projects . The green and yellow are men's finger-less gloves for the Green Bay fan and a set of leg warmers for one of the girls so far.

And to top it off my camera stealing Miss N celebrated her 9th birthday. My baby is 9. I can't stand it .

The cupcakes for her were so good. Plain chocolate cupcake with peppermint icing! Aren't the ginger bread men the cutest? The cupcake cups have ginger bread on them also. After family visiting and our small town Christmas tree lighting about sums up some of the goings on. I will post more pictures about that stuff later.

Well let me say that there has been a baby boom and fall actually actually snuck right up on us! So while I was getting out the hand knits for the weather that was here I realized some of our stuff must of disappeared.

Here are a few finished projects . I made this hat set with bamboo ewe. I can't get enough of any owl cable pattern. Than two more pair of finger-less gloves for the two chicas that still had hats from last year. So tell me who is with me stressing themselves over getting Christmas gifts done? I started coasters that I have made before , they work great and easy to knit up! I got the pattern over at the Purl Bee. You can use any material for the back of them . Recycle some old jeans, sheets, towels or maybe some scraps from another project!

Here are three in a chocolate brown . The yarn is sugar and cream. You can easily get three knitted coasters out of a 50g skein. I have some more getting done in scrap yarns . They are great stash busters.

I also finished the EZ February baby sweater. This was made in the organic cotton. Of course all of my knit pictures are before blocking .

With all the knitting and a nip in the air, I received a special surprise in the mail. My best friend seems to always know when a pick me up is in order. Whether it be a few kind words or a surprise in the mail. Well this time I was surprised with Soulmama's book Rhythm of Family.

Not only was it just in the nick of time to warm the heart , the potato leek soup inside warmed my soul.

I haven't had much time to read anything that is a regular novel. So I decided to pick up Laura Ingalls Wilder Farm Journalist book . It is journal entries so its just the thing for picking up and putting down as needed. There is just something about little house that makes my whole self at peace.

October Road

Although it is one of my favorite months , it is flying by what seems to be faster than the months that proceeded it . When I think I the name October the old TV series that didn't last nearly long enough pops into my mind. October Road wasn't as popular as a lot of today TV series but I loved the music that was played on there.

There has been a lot of baby knitting this month , I am so grateful that I have been able to knock out the gifts for them and even more thankful that they are super quick knits. I have kicked out booties, hats and sweaters. All for little boys so far. So when it came time to finally knit something for the princess that will be here soon the pattern and the yarn had to be friends. I am working on a "February Baby Sweater" that was in Elizabeth Zimmermann's Knitters Almanac. I love the pattern. I think it comes out so pretty.

My girls and I headed over to the park for some sun and fresh air. Fall is settling in early around here this year. Our mountains look like the leaves were all already hand painted this year.

With all the enjoying of the Fall setting in I found a few minutes to watch a Diane Sawyer special on Friday night. It was called "Children of the plains" about the Lakota Indian tribe . It breaks my heart knowing there is so much struggles still in our own back yards. The effect of people's actions have on others. If you head over to here you can listen to so much of their beautiful music . I grew up going to pow wows, and my younger three have never been. I think it is time for them to . Cherokee tribe live not far from us. They have something almost every month but the pow wow is in around May. perfect time to be sitting in our mountains!

How Pathetic

Posting for this weeks Yarn Along over on Ginny's Small Things Blog. But here's the thing, I can't tell you what I am making because it is a gift and the person may have a 5 minute break from school work to peek over at the blog. The plus is I did get a picture of the type of yarn I am using and you get to see how some of the colors knit up! When I made this sweater the wool I got to use didn't bother my allergies at all. I am thinking that it must be the quality. Anyone else ever notice this while using some yarns? I need to place a Knitpicks order for some holiday gifts. I am just wondering if the wool they sell is going to kick my butt. The NC Fiber Fest will be here the end of the month. God willing I hope I get to go. Just some of the great buttons alone . Not to mention the chance to see the animals (hence the reason my daughters are going) and touchy time with some beautiful yarns. Maybe I can find a Christmas gift or two also.

Yes I am still reading the same book. This house has been crazy. I cold when through here over the course of the last week like wild fire. I did everything I could to prevent it but it won. By the grace of god we are suppose to see some cooler night temperatures starting tonight which means my wallet and the earth will be getting a break. It has been so humid here for sometime now. I shall open the windows, clean the carpets and get the wood work while the breeze cleans the air!

Post today to join in the Yarn Along again for this week! I actually finished a project and started another. I will admit the cowl from last week was super quick and perfect to break up the big projects. This week I am tackling a sweater that I found on Ravelry called the Garter Stitch Swing Sweater. I have so many things saved on my favorites on Ravelry that I want to knit. I really need to buy some yarn. I have really been trying so hard to use whats in my stash but it isn't going to cut it with two gifts I really want to make it for the boys in my family.

The sweater is coming from the recycled cotton yarn that I posted about sometime ago. And yes still reading the same book. I feel like it takes me forever to get through a book at times but between work and family time is slim.

The Real Camera

I have gotten out of my lazy mood and grabbed my camera and uploaded away.So where do I start?

Personal peach pies. I got the recipe from the Farm Chicks blog. The crust was out of this world.

Than there was some homemade salsa. We never can it for two reasons, I don't know how to and it never lasts long enough around here. lol We don't go by a recipe , the groom just makes it off the top of his head.

Than there was a need to get out of the house. I really wanted to head to the mountains. Sit in nature and absorb it all in. But we aren't totally sure of the camp grounds and to head up and just pitch a tent doesn't work for me lol. So off to the locale state park which is huge and did take the needing the mountain edge off!.

The whole crew went for the trip . The mass of hair is my son J. I love them curls. Yep all those people on the steps are mine. Totally blessed !

Sleeping, Knitting , Baking

Linking up to Ginny's Yarn Along again this week! I was needing to knit a cowl. I wanted something baggy, I found the subtle drapey cowl by Ruby Knits it. I am using a yarn I had from Michael in bulky. Not sure what brand it was because the store was doing a research study and most yarns had strange labels on them. I am a touchy girl so I went by what was soft.

We had some rain going through from tropical storm Lee and my poor dog was such a mess from the thunder and lightening. He finally just fell asleep .

To top off the weekend I made some homemade Rosemary crackers. I got the recipe from Maryjanes Magazine and they were absolutely amazing. Don't think I will be buying crackers any more. They were so simple to make and you can add and take away easily for flavor such as the herbs or maybe some dried fruit.

Link over to Ginny at the Yarn Along! She has such a great blog and love looking over everyone's project when I get a bit of me time!

Yes I am still working on the book. I think sometimes a book needs to feed something on the inside. Although the book is really good it just isn't feed the right here and now me. But I refuse to not finish this book. So by the grace of god it will be finished by the end of the weekend.

We have two hats going on right now. One is for the groom and the other for a friend of my mother who needs a chemo cap. The green one is made off the top of my head with simply soft by Caron I believe. The second is Cotlin by Knitpicks. The orange one is from a book call Knitting for Peace. It is such a great book. Just the quotes alone help get you back to center. I really want to get the orange one in the mail soon , the weather back home likes to get a bit chilly early back home.

I also got two dish rack mats done for over flow or just when the dishwasher doesn't need to be ran. They were inspired by SouleMama's book handmade home. I love them already. The fabric was re-purposed and the towel was one that had holes in it. Now I have a few more years out of both of these fabrics.

Yes she stopped by. Lasted many hours with tons of rain and a bit of cabin fever. But as a woman I took total advantage of her, I cleaned , organized , baked and knitted! We are doing well over here with no damage thank god .

Finishing up a few things!

Linking up to Ginny over at the Yarn along! Further back in the blog are the patterns for the cardigan and the owl sleep sack. May I add how much I love to cable no matter how hard.

I had a productive week when it comes to finishing off a few knitted gifts and not much reading. Preparing a bit for the coming hurricane, school starting tomorrow, and not much time to knock out the book. But every time I get a few free minutes I get I try to get a page in here and there.

What I need to knock out if a few washrags for the house. I did crochet a few to try to tech myself. But they are in the wash and I will have to show you next post. Hope you have a great rest of the day!

Sharing!

The last week has been all about sharing. Sharing space, my garden, and my knitting with what's been begging to be ready. I can't believe school is starting soon. This summer once again has flew by.

There are many babies due that are in need of some wonderful little knits. Here is The Owl sleep sack. When I get to knit baby things it makes me wish I was a knitter when I had kids. Urban garden magazine was everything I hoped it would be, and the Owl and Moon cafe is just what I need to get away from reality.

This is how I share my armrest with a 10 lbs dog named Maddie travel in the car. She does occasionally lift her head to look out a window to see where we are at but right back to chill mode.

Than I went out to the garden to see whats ready and how things are growing , than I spotted them. I don't mind sharing the Chinese celery with these beautiful Caterpillars. I don't use any chemicals on my plants at all so I guess this will be theirs . My girls figure they are pets , eating their pet food and now there will be 5 beautiful butterflies back into the world. I love their frame of mind!

After my BFF doing what she does best , I have learned this is the beautiful butterfly they will become. The Black swallowtail butterfly.

No way I could chase something so pretty away from the garden.

Shopping anyone?

So let me tell you , with a recession, being a mother and trying to keep it simple when I shop the feeling of guilty just gets me. I will admit that even a gift from someone makes me feel guilty . I don't have many females in my life but the ones I do have amaze me everyday with the size of there hearts and the beauty of their souls. All of them are so different but they complete me.

Today my SIL insisted on some birthday shopping and she puts so much thought into things. She has been on me about Bareminerals makeup. I asked her about it because a few of my girlfriends love it and lets face it I am not getting any younger. Those lines on the forehead are all me . Now face it I work nights so when I am the sun I do squinch my eyes. My loving H told me that I have the wrinkles there from being a strict mom. HA

Isn't the bag the cutest! I was really impressed that I didn't have to get a ton of different stuff for summer and winter skin tone.

Than I got home and found a package from amazon at the door! What a wonderful day!

Inside were these two books that I got with the gift certificate from the BFF for my birthday. Love them and so glad they are what I expected! The canning book is full of so many wonderful canning recipes and than it has some complete meals using them.

The backyard homestead is a wonderful reference book and gives you some wonderful ideas.

My oldest daughter M has learned the art of hemp jewelry and gifted me with a great bracelet!

A good week

Let me start off with apologizing for being several days late on the Yarn Along over on the small things blog. There are so many ideas for good reads and knit/crochet projects.

I have several friends and family that are having babies so I need to knock out some gifts. this blue cot/lin from Knit picks .I have used it in the past on several smaller projects and love it. The pattern I got here. The book is called The Owl and Moon Cafe by Jo-Ann Mapson. My BFF mailed it for me to read and now I am getting around to it. Don't be jealous by the way , I know that thought of reading and knitting on the beach is a beautiful thing.

Than I opened the mail box and my favorite magazine was in.

I absolutely love her magazine and books. They are the king of magazines that you just want to read over and over again and the books are a great reference. I can't say how much I love it!

She also has a sister hood that I think of as the grown up "Girl Scouts" in a way. I haven't made the commitment to join yet but when things settle I think it is going to happen.

For my birthday I received a year subscription to this magazine.

Urban Farm I read over the site often and can't wait for next year when I can use from what I learned this year. To read more about what and how people do it in smaller areas.

WARNING: The problem with these two magazines is you will never throw any of them away!

On our way to the shore There is a old barn given new life , I just needed to share how beautiful it is. An not a color I would of probably considered for any project but love it here!

Happy Birthday America and H!

I must admit I think the forth is a favorite holiday of mine. I love fireworks and one of girls are born on the 3rd! I think she has one of the best birthdays! So I am the proud mother of Irish twins and both are 11 years old for the next few weeks.

The recipes I used were from Pioneer woman, the Devil Dogs recipes.

Happy Birthday to our baby girl!

After the birthday party we were off to our towns fireworks and it still amazes me coming from a huge city how you can go to a town function and see tons of people you know personally.

When I say great atmosphere and everyone from the town it there I mean it. Than we came home and had to search for my fur niece and nephew who ran out the front door the minute my oldest daughter opened it . Driving around for thirty minutes and finally both pups were found safe and sound.

My brother in law also just had to see downtown Raleigh. Very pretty and very clean but my heart still belongs to Philadelphia.

Miss N (the baby) is such a character. I didn't realize what she was doing until after I snapped a few pictures. Notice the flags behind her.

An like at the Philadelphia Art Museum she loves to pose like the statues.

We topped off the night with some music and architecture I fell in love with.

I just love these colors together. Now I need to find a few patterns for baby things to knit up. I have several up coming babies being born ! I will be sure to share very soon.

There was a trip home and a completed sweater! I am so excited I have the sweater done, I need to find the best buttons though!

Here is the February Lady's sweater. It was a great knit and so cute on. My girl H is showing it off but it is in a woman's large and not hanging on her exactly right but I am not one for pictures so you got one of the cutest people in my life.

This here is a hat on the needles that I found over here. I have made one before and it is perfect for long hair . I am using cotton ease. I didn't know that they stopped making it so I got some of the last on a visit back home. And the book is Handmade Home by The author of the Soulemama's blog! She has a wonderful mind and great ideas for re-purposing! This will be my second time linking to the Yarn Along over at Small Things.

We got to visit home as you can tell from the last post from my daughter G. Took the kids for a walk. There are so many beautiful places in the city that just don't get taken advantage of at all.

We had a trip home!

Hi this is G, and this are pictures of our vacation to Philadelphia,PA.

Today's Agenda

Today I will be making some Banana nut muffins to feed the natives for the week. Maybe some corn muffins also. I am also recycling some yarn.

I have gotten 5 skeins out of this of organic cotton!

I also plan on reading atleast another chapter of this book.

Although it has been around for a long time . It is one of those books that never leaves your library, the kind you want to buy the females in your life in hopes they can get something small out of it in there own way.

Ok I am out of here for a bit! I am determined to get the sleeves done on the sweater after the floors are mopped.

Summer Feast

Todays menu was a summery one. We had hamburgers with all kids of toppings including the tomatoes fresh from the garden. "What kind did of toppings do I roll with" you ask? That would be green pepper onions and cheese, also known as the Philly style hamburger!
Right now I have a strawberry summer cake cooling and waiting for homemade whipped cream. hope you are all making the most of your day!

When I say busy I mean busy!

KWhat a whirl wind of a weekend. All of it crazy and loud but all in the best ways.

We celebrated two graduations and a first birthday . Family that drove hours and family from down the street. Milestones for three people in my life . No knitting was to be had, nothing crafty at all but thats ok.

H graduated from elementary school, off to Jr high.

I think this is one of the unsure territories in life for kids that we now look back on and think "that wasn't so bad".

Than talk about new chapters in the book of life, J graduated high school. Yes I said high school! Where did the time go . ( I know , every parent says that) Yesterday he was a baby or starting the first day of school and now he is making decisions that will guide him in life. He has a great head on his shoulders but lord have mercy how much can a mothers heart take in a weekend!

He graduated with honors and academic achievement. While working at least 24 to 32 hrs a week.

All that hair on his face makes me have to realize his age even more! Off to college in the fall. Oh and he passed his motorcycle test the other day @@.

Oh did I mention a little miss someone has turned the big ONE!

Our granddaughter P turned the big one. She is enjoying her first piece of sweets here.

Another year that just flew by like crazy .

So we are now the parents of three high school graduates , two middle schoolers and one still in elementary. Well off to do something creative. Hopefully I will get that sweater done this weekend.

Just made some more of my detergent. I must say it works well.

Until I was cleaning out my purse I had totally forgotten I wanted to share two artists with you than I ran across at the NC fiber fest.

The pottery this woman had was beautiful, soothing and functional. I so need one of her knitting pots! I have a furry beast here that thinks the yarn is her toy at times. An besides they are just beautiful!

I am also not into art. Something has to really catch my eye for me to stop and even look. I am not a snob but it is just not my thing until I saw these paintings! I mean come on, how can you not love them. The knitter and mom in me is head over heals!

Memorial Day!

Thank you to all the people who have fought and continue to fight for our country! An normally we do the sit around with the kids and BBQ and relax but I am a little tired of not living. I needed to get away and be with more family. With my cousin and her family and watch our kids play together. Let me just say it was the best idea. Not only was there peace of mind and some tent camping which I consider camping cause it was in a tent even though on my cousins land with her bathroom and shower . It was a blast. I wanted to share a few pictures with ya . Great food, small amount of knitting (just a washrag) I wanted my needles and yarn but not something I had to think about while my hands did their yoga. Oh and just in-case you were wondering I have my sweater body done and will work on the sleeves hopefully this week.

First of the Harvest!

Basil , I just wanted to show you the first of whats come out of the garden. Not much but it is something great to our family.

Funny little story for ya, My oldest DD went to go fishing this morning. An do to certain events after they went and bought their worms and stuff were unable to. So when she come over and is loading up the car with her stuff to go home she hands her little sisters the worms. With out a second though right into the garden they went. G, H and N are the proud parents to twelve of the biggest worms I have ever seen.

This is a Alpaca from Got to be NC. Me and my family had a lot of fun petting Reagan. She was so pretty and she had such BIG eyes. They were so pretty!
Here are some Angora Goats. These get really hairy and puffy.

This is an Angora Rabbit. He gets really puffy too. They get up to 10.5 pounds! And you have shave them 4 times every year and brush their hair almost everyday.

This is some lady feeding the camel. This camel is very greedy. He kept on coming toward me while I was trying to feed the other animals. This wasn't the only camel there, there was another one to but she was in a pen laying down. There was also goats, and cows, alpacas, turtles, and porcupines.

It has been a crazy few weeks. I think about 2 to be exact. It has been stressful and just busy.

I went a whole week without knitting knowing damn well that the yoga for my hands just relieves stress like nothing else but the funk was just that paralyzing. But than I finally picked it up , got to feeling a bit like my old self and hoping to get this sweater done so I can actually get to wear it!

The colors remind me of the happy place. The beach!

I also made some cost effective art work for my kids bathroom. I have this new craving for some color.

Just some scrapbooking paper and poster board. I figure it will do something for their bathroom and the cotton yarn I brought in matching colors will work well for wash rags.

As most people know I don't buy much baked goods , just prefer to make them myself for the family. So here is my first semi-homemade cherry pie. I haven't had cherry pie in forever.

I used my butterfly cookie cutter to put a special touch in the middle. I also made some chocolate chip oatmeal muffins. My kids aren't huge fans of breakfast cereal and we do make your bigger breakfast at times but those school mornings can be a little busy.

Mothers day was nice. I received a gift card for the local craft store which I used to buy the yarn and the frames for the kids bathrooms. Funny what being a parent is all about . Spending your money and gift cards to make the house a home. An most people just don't understand that it is ok and makes us parents at piece.

I also received this book. I hope it is a great read and perfect for the busy parent. It is her journal so you can read the entries as you take care of life.

To somewhat wrap up for now , (because my groom is patiently waiting for me to help out in the yard) I made some homemade laundry soap. I used the recipe as follows below and it has rocked. My son works in a hotel kitchen, my husband has been working in clay soil, I am in the medical field and three little chics that sometimes wear what they are suppose to be eating. I keep some traditional detergent in the house for the stuff that is crazy and when it runs out I may buy some powder that I can use just in case.

Homemade Detergent

1 cup Borax

1 cup washing soda

1 bar of Dr Bronner's soap.

Grate the bar soap and mix with other two ingredients. Use 2 teaspoons per load. I have also been using vinegar in my dispenser for the liquid fabric softener and No the clothes don't smell like vinegar and yes it works LOL. I don't like to many perfumes especially this time of year with biting bugs and you can always add a essential oil.

The jar it is kept in also purchased with the gift card. !

I will be sure to post pictures of the yard . I am glad it is almost done. Tonight I get to head to the NC fiber fest. It is my first time! I can't wait. I will take pictures there to.

Easter !

Let me just say that being able to swim on Easter is a beautiful thing. An even strengthens my fight against buying expensive Easter clothes. I tired to get good pictures to share and of the baskets but they got dug into really quick. I am not a big fan of candy so they got a bit but they also got a small gift. J's basket was a book, hummus, pretzels , cinnamon and sugar pita chips. G's basket was a Weird Carolinas book and candy, H got a journal and candy and N got Justin Beber cards and candy.

There was egg dying in between swimming, with nosy dogs .

We had lunch with my sister in law which rocked!

This pictures are my three youngest and my sils three. The three older ones are mine. An my sil was blessed with twins. This was the best picture we could get with candy in their systems.

We also had a visit from grand-baby P. She just had to show off her new dress!

A week in review

Well I will give you a week in review with a few visuals.

Starting last Friday we headed up to the mountains in Pennsylvania. The scenery was beautiful. We catered a wedding for a dear friend of the family. I watched the girl grow into a beautiful lady from 4th grade. She is also one of my daughters best friends. This was the first time I ever took this route and we went through my Bff's hometown. Made me miss her so much . I had my daughter H as my co-pilot and she is as camera happy as the rest of us.

These are a few farms she would like to live on.

I would so love to have that life but there are so many farm type things I just couldn't handle. An I would so be vegetarian cause I couldn't do anything to any animal except feed, keep warm and love on them. It sure was beautiful country side though.

We headed over to Philly and visited family . It has been to long since we got the chance to visit. We saw all our parents and my grand baby P got to spend some extra time with them. My mommy made me this bag for shopping. It is crochet and shall be put to good use. I am thinking I made need one for the beach also.

Than there was the long trek home. The kids did so well with all the traveling . No fighting and complaining.

Than the groom and the kids hit the home front ready for the next adventure. That is our tent you see above. It was the first camping excursion and they loved it. I had to work so I just got tormented with pictures via text messages. The best part about the having a chef as a groom / dad is he came prepared with portable burners.

All and all I have gathered they had the best time. Notice the soda on the table? Just proves I wasn't there because the soda wouldn't of been a option.

Not your cooking recipes.

I went to the craft store and grab a recipes box and some cards. yeah yeah I know I should of used what I had at home but it was a treat and cost effective. I am using them for natural cleaners , body care, and other things that I need to mix up. I think as I try to use them I will rate what I like on the back of the card . Next trip to the store I have some small things to pick up and some mason jars. Than maybe next weekend we can get to mixing it up!

Farmers market

What a great way to end my week . Food shopping at the farmers market. Very true there are no coupons but the prices aren't bad on most things especially when I buy in season. I also got some of my salad stuff and some raw honey. The Groom made some homemade Balsamic vinaigrette dressing and homemade salsa.

We also got the big basket of strawberries since they are in season here and let me tell you I only have about 1/3 of a basket left.The kids found them and they Groom made some homemade sherbet.mmmmmm

There were also sweat potatoes purchased for sweet potatoes french fries (sweet and/or with salt). Oh and did I mention how much my dogs love them? I boil off a few at a time and freeze some. Some don't even make it from the pot. It is like puppy candy.

The one thing I had to have was just because I woke up with them on my mind are right here.

Collard Greens ! They are hitting the spot.

I try to do the menu thing so I save when I shop , I also write out a shopping list that I really try to stick to . I also admit that I get lazy at times and hate putting thought into it cause I don't have a restaurant kitchen and not every spice or herb lives in my pantry. I have been thinking about picking up a new spice/herb that I know I won't be growing each time I shop but that means I have to be organized and keep a list with me of what I already have. Some of the stuff we are growing this year are things we use all the time!

I am also making an effort to buy in season foods. For me where I live it isn't so bad due to climate and this handy map. I brought cauliflower and broccoli which I didn't need the full head of so about a quarter went into the freezer after I blanched them. The directions I used are here.

Hey everyone! I want to thank everyone for the comments . I do love to hear from you and wish I was a little more blogger savvy so I had them come to email and be able to answer each one.

Let me tell you, a girl (fellow knitter) I work with comes into work a few weeks ago with her "good news". Apparently I am the only person who has no luck with knitting and thrift stores. She goes to a local thrift shop and hits the jackpot. Than she went to an estate sale and hits the lottery yet again!. I honestly can say that in no way I am jealous, not at all. I was happy for her, the yarn was pretty , soft and come to find out its "The good stuff". Well last week she comes into work with a bag and all you crafty fokes out there know that we always have a bag with our works in progress in it. She hands me the bag and says "I have to much and hope you can use it". I am beyond thankful over here.

Now these pictures do no justice, this stuff is beautiful , soft and doesn't make my eyes itch.

But I do need some help here. See the yellow mesh thing? What is it and what does it do? I am digging for the perfect sweater to knit . Yes she gave me that much. And the vintage knitting needles I think are calling for a shadow box frame to decorate a wall. Hey if people can put up sports stuff why not knitting needles lol.

Here my friends is Seamus, he is like having a little boy running around. This was s breather before he can find something to get into again. He always lays on the foot stool like this. I love when he gets on the couch and when I run into the room and he jumps down. Like I can't see the white hairs @@. But the face melts my heart. Love this boy to pieces.

We got around to finally getting the flowers , herbs and veggies into the ground. We have had alot of rain this last week which was needed but I am so glad to see the sun. Now if we can get the temps to atleast 70 during the day I would be so glad.

These are the flowers my Chicas picked out for the front of the house to add some color . I have a love for snap dragons and don't know where it comes from.

Now if I can keep the dogs out of out them we will have our cherry tomatoes, bell peppers, mint, cilantro, basil and parsley. My brother grows rosemary so I just go in his yard in the fall and take some to dry. I was reading that after 6 months spice and herbs loose a ton of their taste

so I decided to increase what we are growing this year. I am really happy that I didn't buy containers and went with what I have at home. I do need to get more soil but with the containers I have there is still room for a few more things to grow. I am going to post some pictures when the plants are planted. I will also post some pictures and links when I figure out what the yarn is going to be used for. Hope spring is moving in where ever you are!

There is a Yarn thief among us!

So let me tell ya, I have a few things to share. I get excited over the little things in life including but not limited to, New knitting blogs, little things my kids say that let me know they do actually hear and learn from me and warmer temperatures. I have been knitting every second I get a chance. I have a niece who is due in the next month so I made the new baby and sweater and working on a blanket now.

Here is the almost finish product, please keep in mind that it hasn't been washed and blocked yet. I still need to find the perfect buttons! My oldest son saw it and now wants one in his size. He will be heading to the mountains in a few months for college so I will be on the search for some rocking wool . Any brands of yarn that are warm , soft and wool that you love? Some yarn prices make me want to cry. While in the midst of the knitting around here Miss P came to visit and decided to help me while I was knitting.

I have to add that I didn't hand her the yarn , she rolled towards me, grabbed it , and rolled back.

We celebrated my oldest daughters 21st birthday this month also. Let me tell you it is so hard knowing your babies are moving on and time slipped by so fast. But I am so excited to see the paths that are chosen.

As for a knitting link , I must share this one. It is called Pickles. The patterns that are available are in English towards the end of the posts. I love so many of their projects. My knitting list just keep growing and growing.

Got my newest issue of Mary Jane's magazine , kind of makes your day. I don't get many magazines at the house for a few reasons such as they make me want to shop, stress me over having the perfect house , and womans magazines the woman are all so perfect to the eye. I just want my girls to grow up knowing that people who are beautiful on the inside radiate that on the out side. Clothes clutter makeup and hair don't make us beautiful. It is about taking care of yourself physically and spiritually. But this magazine , makes you want to read every article and has some great natural fixes for everything. It always has stuff in it on how you can make a small impact on things you believe in and want to help out with. I may have to make this a gift for a few of the woman in my life for Christmas or birthdays.

I came across these lunch boxes that I wanted to give a heads up on.

I was looking for some affordable bento type containers and ran across these. I know most people my only think about them right before school starts but I may pick these up now and use them. Maybe sell the old ones at a yard sale or even donate them. If you click on the picture above it will take you right to the site .

Smelling spring in the air.

An even though I don't live back in the North East I am so tired of being cold. I was so happy to feel 70 to 80 degrees this past weekend. I also witnessed flowers growing out side which just makes me more hopeful. It also make me want to buy yarn , in summery warm colors . I am thinking cotton , linen, modal? Right now i got a baby blanket on the ole needles for a shower next month. I also picking up a crochet hook and somewhat got the hang of single crochet than put it down cause I for the life of me cant figure out how to count my stitches.

Than there was some embroidery on flour sacks for the bathroom. The pattern is by Amiee Ray

An we celebrated valentines day , we keep it to a budget and I got a wonderful mango candle. The grand baby got her first baby teether cookie. When she decided she she was done she gave it to the dog.

We also had a visit from out oldest son J . It amazes me how fast these kids grow.

An for the weekend we decided to head to Wilmington and visit the USS North Carolina. It was my girls first times on a boat, ship, battleship. I have been on one myself and a submarine but forgot how big they are and how long the walk thru is. But I will say that I felt no guilt eating with everything I ate.

Of course midway through some were ready for a nap. These beds rock . I could honestly say that getting back to simple I could so use these beds in one room .

An the biggest kid had a blast also.

I will be sure to post the finished baby blanket . It is nothing fancy but I am a plain kind of girl .

Heard this song while making breakfast this morning. I don't know what it is about Sister Christian but takes me to a happy place and makes me feel like all is good with the world.

Ok now down to business. I didn't make any new years resolutions. I don't like to feel like I am letting my self down but I will make time to enjoy more and worry less. Let me share some pictures with you . I am warning you , these are cell phone pictures. But they do the job while I talk myself into a camera smaller than my rebel.

OK friends EAT YOUR HEART OUT!! I received two of the best crafty books out there! Even if you don't embroider the Doodle Stitching book it perfect if you want to learn, teach a kid or personalize something. My bff sent them to me. She knows me so well. I love the eye candy and ideas that come with these.

here is my the list of what needs to be read sitting next to my bed. They all look so good. the funny part is the Stephen King book you see is the newest one and my brother and I bought it for each other for Christmas this year. Short stories are great for right before bed so you can get it read before bed!

We also got hit by an ice storm this week. You got to love chipping a quarter inch of ice off your world and temperatures staying below freezing so it just hangs around awhile.

Since it was so cold I made the recipe that I posted on a previous post and I used apples and blue berries. It is always a huge hit. Some homemade whipped cream is where its at.

Well I am out of here to go knit a few bibs from Mason Dixon Knitting. My daughters teacher is due with a little boy in a few weeks. Hope all of you make the most out of your weekend.

I just had to type that date today. It makes me want to hand write a note or journal entry to just savor writing it. I didn't make any New years resolutions this year, wonder if I am the only one. The weather here has been cold and now we are facing a ice storm. I have some reading, knitting and embroidery to do so I shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth and in-brace the to chilly to go out days. If this weather keeps up I just may have all of my knitting for next Christmas ready before this Easter. I am unable to post pictures for this blog due to where I am but I will link ya to a few thing . I made this yesterday to warm up the house a bit. I put blue berries and apples in it. I also made homemade whip cream for it. Just heaven when served nice and warm. I have my eye on this book called "Knits men want" over at amazon. They have some great sweaters in there for any man. Got my recent "Mary Janes Farm" mag in the mail. There are so many things in it that have to be seen, read and put to good use that it make my head spin. There was an article about growing your own berry bush in a pot in your little yard and to be honest I think one or two bushes are plenty. I really want to do my own herbs this year, lettuce , tomatoes and green peppers. Any little bit helps if you ask me.

Merry Christmas, Happy New year

I so dig the holidays and hate when they are over. I hate when I putting off all my knitting or homemade gifts till the last minute and than stress myself over getting them done . I really hate second guessing if someone is going to like receiving a knitted gift. So let share some of our going ons around here.

The hubby on Christmas day started celebrating his last year in his 30's . He was not thrilled , sometimes I wonder if I am the only one in the world who just don't care LOL.

There were kids getting up at 5am. You know something , the three girls went to bed so good . Asleep by 10 pm. G has sent her alarm for 5 am so before I went to bed I snuck in and turned it off thinking I will maybe sleep till 6 or 7 am for the first time in 21 years. Nope the three of them were standing next to my bed at exactly 5 am . Everyone was ready for a nap by 9 am .

Than there was some hanging around and not getting dressed because we had plans the next day to go home and visit family! As we sit with an eye on the weather channel the storm that we were hoping would hold off sped up and for the first time since 1947 we had a white Christmas in NC. Two of the kids woke up excited, one woke up crying cause she wanted her grandparents and the boy woke up at noon and said guess we aren't going. There was 7 inches of the white stuff and here everything shuts down.

Here is a peek at one of the gifts I made for my aunt. It is cotton wash rags and three cotton soap bags. I also put some soap from Trader joe's in the package and sugar free candy. The links are in the words peoples.

I hope you all rocked the holiday , which ever you may celebrate! I will tell ya I am starting on next year now ! As far as the hand made gifts. Maybe I will start a list of ideas over a cup of hot coca. We have a ice storm heading in tonight and a "bigger snow storm " coming in on Monday so maybe there will be plenty of knitting time! As for a trip home, looks like that is going to have to wait another month :(

I have been a really bad blogger but life has been so crazy. I have so many homemade gifts I wanted to share on here but forgot to take pictures before I wrapped some. We celebrated two birthdays since the last blog, been getting ready for Christmas. I will be starting on knitted gifts early this year. Believe you me .

So we got to celebrate The boy prince's birthday.

I have to brag. This boy of mine asks and expects nothing . He is so grateful over the simple things in life.

Than we celebrated Ms . N's birthday

her cake had Penguins from "Littlest Pet shop". She is such a animal person. Her cupcakes has snowflakes and a ice coating over her icing. lol

So like I said there are Christmas gifts knitted up but I forgot to take pictures in the rush of getting them done. But I did take a couple here and there for ya to see.

Here goes one knitted goodie that I made for my niece . The basic ear flap hat found here. I love basic patterns because you can do so much to make them your own with patterns and so on. I also got the book More Last Minute Gifts. I will say that every knitter should have this on hand. So many great patterns to be found in here. I always thing twice about buying books because there are so many great free patterns. This book it one that I had to have!. My amazon list just keeps going and going.

Well I am off for a bit of baking and some more knitting and cleaning. I will be snapping pictures here and there today in hopes to share with you.

Busy Bee over here

I know it has been a long while since I blogged but I have been crazy busy in all good ways. Welcome new followers , and hope you enjoy this little spot. I found a app for my phone and I am hoping that it works the way I think and I will be-able to post more often although beware my pictures will be cell pictures.

Well lets tell you a bit of what I have been up to ,

We had a much needed trip home. Took the girls to love park just for a few pictures.

My chicas and their Uncle P above, the whole park is filled with game pieces and kind of fun for a photo shoot.

Got to love the monopoly pieces.

Beautiful city hall! It was chilly but well worth it.The color of the leaves just fed my soul!

It has been pretty chilly here in NC but not like back home. There has been lots of homemade soups but not much baking yet. Have done some knitting so let me share one of my projects with you . I have to get pictures of the other ones.

Found the free pattern here. A few ladies I know made it also and I fell in love. You can find the pattern here. There were other projects over the last few months, I just need to get pictures to show ya. Next blog I promise.

With the ending summer coming to a near I have to say it is bitter sweet. I will miss them being right here with me. I welcome the organization of the school year. Menu planning , bedtimes , knowing I have an excuse to put things off cause I have to help with homework. So let me tell you what has been going on since the last post.
Knitting progress has been made . I made my first sweater that I found by following links from this blog called Cotton Rabbits. For the life of me I can't remember where I found the fingerless gloves.

Than we also go to celebrate G's 11th birthday. I asked her for days what kind of birthday cake she wanted and of course after much deep though she came up with "just red".

This was the cake just for the candles and the adults to eat. But for my G I had to have something to make her day special so I put these together.

There were many stolen naps around here also . I was working from home one after noon and on my way upstairs to switch out laundry I found H making the most of her time!

We also have been getting to watch out granddaughter P develop her personality and some of the faces she makes just tickles me to pieces.

When my daughter M took her to the Dr's he said a baby with this coloring should have been born playing the bagpipes! This makes me so proud.

So now back to summer ending. I am going to miss my summer days , the warm weather, and the long hours of daylight. But on the other hand I am welcoming knitted wear, things turning orange, the taste of pumpkin in everything and chilly crisp mornings. Doesn't it sound wonderful knowing we are going to make those foods that feed the soul, hot chocolate and cute sweaters! This time of year really get me to a point where my heart aches for home. Being from the northeast the trees turn the most beautiful colors and you can feel the crisp air all day long. The best is the kids didn't sweat in their Halloween costumes . When old man winter comes knocking I will say that I am good right here. Ok Ok maybe except for the weeks around Christmas!

July coming to an end

Kind of makes me sad knowing the summer is moving by so fast . With all the heat that we have been dealing with there has been a lot of indoor time during the noons.
We celebrated my birthday and I was actually off . My dear son brought me a ice-cream cake people, from cold stone , without being asked or reminded. My oldest got me a shirt saying I am disturbed and my girls got me the prettiest sundress. I love my babies , they really do appreciate things! So let me share a bit of what has been happening around here.
My June bug has hit 10 and a half pounds! P and Pop . Love the way she is looking away. Probably thinking why is this man always in my grill.

Can you stand the cheeks!

I also will say I am not the chef of the house. (my above groom is actually a chef) But I can follow and recipe and got this from The Pioneer Woman's Blog.
I could do most of my weekly menu between there and allrecipies.com. I am not the kid who can make it up as I go . An thank good for texting and wonderful best BFF because she shares some with me to and I need my hand held at times.

Also take notice to my beautiful bowl that can go from freezer to oven.

I love the metal thing that holds them also .
well I am outta here for a bit. I have a sock to finish knitting , a baby sweater, a kids sweater and a adult sweater I really would like to get finish and get started and finished. I am itching to embroider to but I have to go buy some fabric . Maybe tomorrow I will make that trip to Joann's. I just have to read up and see what weight I am suppose to buy.

Red White and My new favorite shade of Blue

Hope all enjoy the July 4th holiday and I will say it has been wonderful as always for us! It is my favorite holiday. The food , warm weather and My H's birthday!I am going to have to explain my title a bit also . Did I mention there were also a few first?
The first try at making a pond cake that my DD H requested for her birthday . An it is very cute if I do say so myself.
My DD H hit the double digits and now her and my daughter G are the same age for the next six weeks, HA. I love it especially when people ask me if they are twins .
The eyes on my princess are my favorite shade of blue. Let me just let everyone know these aren't the baby shade of blue . Her eyes have lightened to her mommy and daddy's color over the last three weeks. So pretty . It was also her first July 4th but no fireworks this year for her.
I got my last issue of Maryjane's Farm and let me say "first thing in the morning that will be getting renewed . I can't live with out the magazine. We have been trying to still do the whole "out of necessity " and "keeping it simple". But this is something the I love and learn from. There is a great article on the island of Rota and how things are still the simple like . Everyone eats together, cooking from scratch , woman consider each other sister and everything is organic. The best part is that there are no clothing stores, no gardening stores, and books are like gold.

Just Can't Take

All of these wonderful things today!
First I get a letter from my baby bro who I so lovingly call dork .

This is him , my brother D. The baby of the group. Getting sworn in , starting a new chapter in his adult life and making it hard for me to torment him! It just isn't the same having to tease him in mail. I can't wait to see him next month! Love you D.

Now let me tell you what else I am excited about. Donna Downey inspires me often and I just saw on her site that she is now selling he canvas stuff you can alter! I so want to make the canvas albums and the camera big I am eying up also lol. I am loving the thought of pretty knitted flowers , yarn, floss and cool fabrics to create what makes my soul happy!

Lunch Ideas

It is so hard to come up with ideas so the kiddos don't get board. An I love to look at lunch ideas. I will say they make me want to back and cook and create . When it is made by hand at least we know what they are eating in school and we can make it the size we need to fit it in the lunch boxes. Here is a site that a few friends of mine love. I love that even what is storing the food is safe. To be honest though you can always get the containers that are shown below at target or online and use those also. My older two (9) and (10) year old want no parts of the whole carrying a "lunch box" and these have ice packs built in. The brand is called Fit and Fresh.I know for most school is almost over but to be honest I wanted to share these two lunch sites / blogs for ideas. I love looking at them . Doesn't get much better than that title. Let me just say that there is a little inspiration back in my groove so I am going to abuse it while it is here!
Ok these goodies are called Fairy wafers and let me say that they didn't last long around here. Oh they were just perfect ! So easy to make with my girls to. I got the recipe from this blog and will be making them often! You can use any cookie cutter shape so thing all kinds of designs.
These are a pair of booties for a certain little girl who will be gracing us with her presences any day now. They are Baby Maryjane . I need to find the best buttons for them! The free pattern is over at Ravelry. I am so thankful this blogger/ creator shared the pattern. I love making them.
Than the knitting bug hit the house in a big way! N was knitting away. Than the others jumped in .

Than G who knits very contorted every time picked up her needles and got to work! It really touches my heart when kids learn to carry on what was almost a lost art. An for me knitting calms my soul! Now I have to get some supplies and get them to make their own stationary so the art of letter writing doesn't disappear.

Yes friends my favorite time of year is here yet again! An just in case you didn't know June 26Th is the Great American camp out ! This type of tent camping is all me. In my back yard, easy access to a bathroom and running water and no TV for the kids to watch. Now don't get me wrong I have a lot of quality time with my gang . Dinners are eaten together and if the groom is working there is always a parent there! But this is a no computer or TV gig. We can sit around and talk, cook on the grill , knit and read. Got to love it. My tent needs to be aired out and I may have to get a airmatress!

This DVD player you see from a previous year will be missing! Shhh don't tell my chicas.
Now if it were up to me I would probably have a Maryjane type of deal going on in my yard. I mean come on and take a stroll through the "Outpost book". That is what I am talking about. Soft , cozy and still pretty . Keeping it simple but beautiful. Love it . I don't camp in tents in the woods , heck there has to be a door that locks in order for me to camp. But this is one of those things that my kiddos will remember forever . Hope you all have a great rest of the weekend and catch ya all when I am off to post something!

But I do hope you do enjoy some of what I am going to share. I always want to blog but with the whirl wind and not much creative time I just don't get to. So here were go one alittle of whats been going on in this house,

Here are a few of our baskets that get made up. There are a few more but can't find the pictures for them. I just had to share these cute cupcakes that were sent to my kiddos from the baker at my Husbands work. They were so good and just in the nick of time cause I needed sugar that day. This woman cans fruit and jellies . Soooo good . I really need to learn.

My daughter found these at a local thrift store. I love them. I even offered switching mine with her but she refused. I love the orange the most on the mushrooms. It was a cell phone pic so the color isn't the best.

Than there was earth day at our local park and these two sisters were there to educate us! The owner of these ladies taught me a whole lot and made me want chickens even more. But what I didn't know until after standing there for 5 minutes was there were babies under mama.

The owner of the chicks put her finger under the wing of the mama and three of these little ones popped out. How sweet they are and look at the head peeking out on this one! I love it.
I haven't done much reading or crafting . Just in general kind of busy . The warm weather has set and and nothing makes me happier!
I am so in the mood for a yard sale. I am noticing a lot of stuff I have no use for and it would be a shame to just get rid of it when I could possible recycle the funds and maybe spruce up the house a bit! Still trying to keep it simple and out of need. I still wonder in amazement how we get so far from it. Even when we think we are making life easier , we really aren't.Oh in case you were wondering I still love my Maryjane's farm subscription!I swear I read the whole thing from front to back!

This class is to tell you what is on my mild as of the last couple of days. So class pay attention.
I been thinking about the bathtubs like the type my Grandparents bathed me in .

To just soak in super warm water and the best part is the fancy handles that you can take and shower off when done. Simple bathrooms.I think the best part of a home is living a life style where everything has a purpose , its simple , and easy to maintain. I think with life being so complex we make our self so crazy.

And this pretty shower curtain makes me so happy and the towels that go with it do also.To go out and just buy these things will look pretty for a while and make me happy just to have but than I think about that wonderful book I have in the other room that shows me how to use what I have .To think out of the box and use things that may not be able to be used for the original purpose or going thrifting and and using what you often see there when it comes to linens .

Come take a look inside and get the imagination going. My dad lives alone and has more towels and sheet/ sheet sets than I do the mother of many. I have to tell him to go through them cause I need to make the bath mat from this book in the worst way.
I am going to admit something. I have two personalities. Part of me (the hard working mom ) tells me it is so much easier to just buy stuff but my heart knows and my wallet will thank me if I reused and re-purposed. It would also teach my kiddos a lesson to and that is the best part.
I also was checking out the farm chick blog which I adore thanks to my best friend exposing me. And I don't know about you but I can never find pieces of clothes that I absolutely love. But peeking on her blog I found two shirts that I love and will be trying really hard to make this spring.Well I am off to make some coffee and chat with the bestie!

Today I want to share with you a few more handmade ornaments that i received for Christmas from my talented BF.

Aren't they just so pretty ! all hand painted . I don't know why she doesn't sell these. I love them. I love home made!My grand babies may actually be hanging these on their trees in years to come!

We have new creativity to our house. My DD H got a pottery set for Christmas. I figured it would sit around forever and not get used. Well I was informed that we are in need of more clay. I have to feed this hobby so she will make me the perfect mugs in the future!

I wanted to share some of my holiday goodies.

These were homemade from my mommy. Crochet coasters , hand towels, dish towels and rags! Oh how I love home made and the fact that they will stick up to kids and hang in for years makes them even better.

The candle was from my daddy and smells so good.
The blanket and towel set will be used with out a doubt next holiday! I couldn't bare to use them this year yet!

An I am praying it is going to be as wonderful as I think it will. I am not going to apologize for not blogging and promise to blog more because with kids work and a house sometimes just uploading the pictures is 5 minutes that can't be spared. I have a ton to share with you so I am probably going to have to do it over a few post. So since I last blogged I watched my son turn 17 and the baby turn 7. Time sure does fly .

We also went to our Christmas tree lighting ceremony on our little towns Main st. When I say little I mean it is tiny but so charming.

It reminds me of the movie "singing in the rain."
I really hate the end of the holiday season. So this year I have decided to keep it going with making gift tags , cards and some of the hand made gifts for next year.

Here was the tree after Santa , mommy and daddy visited but before the kids got to it. An as of January 7th it will be gone for another 358 days. (or something around there.

I have been freakin lazy. Putting off anything I can. Letting things I want to share with you all just build up. Than I write a blog that I try to squeeze everything and its mother into and get mad when the pictures take forever to upload.
Well Happy Fall! We got a surprise of home made blue berry and apricot jam from a friend. As you can see in the cake dish there was banana nut bread.

Than school started and part of me was so happy to work in piece and the other side of me of course makes me nervous not having them in site.

I got these great containers by fresh and fit. They have removable ice packs and eco friendly and safe woo hoo.

This was one of our visitor for the month. It is Boun and he is a doxin mixed with shit tzu. What a cutie but I think he looks like the flying dog from The Never ending story.

Miss N got her ears pierced . I wait for them to ask and she has been bugging . She handled it like a champ . She was so proud in this picture.

I finally got my copy of Maryjane's magazine and let me tell you , I love love love it. I have a few of her books and one is called the stitching room . There are a few lost arts in here that I would just love to learn . Only if I learn to budget time better. I will be keeping my subscription to this magazine . I have no current subscriptions in order to keep life simple and money well spent. I do think this will be a money well spent thing. Did i mention I love love love it?
Well I can't believe the holiday season is creeping up on us . I have a few things to do . Not to be lazy or uncaring I will be giving out gift certs for a few people . Big Happenings!

OK since the last blog things have been busy as usual!Life milestones that have been bitter sweet and I do have a few pictures to share.
Congratulations to M for graduating high school. WOW those years flew by even though at times with the homework battles I never thought it would end.

Than my granddaughter got back from the hospital . She was carried around by Seamus our dog and needed a new body.She is healed and back to playing with her mommy.An yes she came in the cute hospital gown and hat.

Than we were off to our happy place. Florida we went. Just to relax . No Disney or anything like that. On the way N lost two more teeth so now we have no front teeth and H lost one there and one when we got home. I should be called Bank-O-Tooth fairy!

An every time we go to Florida he gets his picture taken in front of a palm tree.

Upon our arrival home my sweet G turned 10 ! She combined birthday funds and got a DSI.

Now to let you know what I have read,
The Shack and I did like it and what a magical journey.
The Glass Castle another great book . OK you must think I never read a bad book but let me tell you I hit a goldmine this summer!I haven't had any crafting time though. I haven't gotten anything knitted at all! I can't wait for fall and with school starting things shall slow down . I can't wait for comfort food and pumpkin everything!Especially decor and smells. I do have a few Christmas gifts I need to get working on and here and there gifts that I need to finish. Well I hope you are all enjoying the last days of summer Peace and Love.

No it isn't the temperature but I just realized this is my 102nd post! I have a lot to share so grab some tea and sit with me.It has been a whirlwind around here. I am making sure next summer is all about lazy days. I am thankful of all that has been keeping me busy though no doubt!

Yes N lost another tooth . Let me tell you , with 5 kids I could of paid off a house with all the money the tooth fairy dishes out. Ok your right I was joshing you , I could of bought some craft stuff though LOL.

An I started working on this out of my Mary Jane's stitching room book !. I also taught the girls how do due the first basic stitch and shall get them on here when they are done.

I also have started admiring tattering and crochet. I would love to make some edging for the ends of my flower sacks!

After getting home from work a little late this morning and resting for a bit I promised my girls a tea party. An of course when I went to get cute stuff to eat for it there was nothing. I really need more time in my day so I can make the little treats for days like this.

Let me think what else I want to bring up while I am here (tapping head with finger).
I noticed that a book I read called Lovely bones is coming out in a movie. I have so many mixed emotions about seeing it. Now don't get me wrong. In now way , No how was this a bad book I would say definitely must read but as you are reading it everything is filtered with your brain your way and to watch it on the big screen is like a right at you type thing. To be honest it looks like it was beautifully done and I will have to watch it on DVD cause no way I could watch it in the theater. I just finished A Long Way Gone, and reading the Glass castle now. They were both good reads. So we have a busy week coming up and I hope to get some pictures on here by the weekend .

To me . Yes another year older and I will say another year wiser. Still not in anyway miserable about being in my 30's . I figured I would share with you my gifts .

I took the lazy route with the picture and used a cell phone.

1.Ipod touch and yes it is my first Ipod and I am in love. Not because it is a touch but because I finally own a Ipod. I can listen to me books at work now .Woo hoo

5.The Prairie Girls Guide.What a flipping great book . I have been putting off buying it and decided to get it with birthday funds with the Ipod.
6.Chalk markers that write like a pen! Yes ladies and gents you can write on tons of stuff with them . They are what I used to write .

How my garden is growing.

First off big shout out to my chica Ann. She probably saved my Basil plant for me!
After I got out of work yesterday morning and did some errands I took five minutes to see what was going on plant and flower wise.

This is the basil that I am hoping will reroot and my now one year old Beta fish named Aaron.

I planted one , just one tiny plant of these last year . They were the color of pink ones. And this year this is what came back on their own. The sad part is they only last a day!

This beauties came from Texas seeds and although they look sad in this pic and thirsty after they were watered they perked right up. It would be nice if we had some rain when I worked so they got watered!

This is one of three pots of aloe . I had to separated the plant that I took from my mommies when I moved out some 17 years ago .

This bush that becomes a tree is flowering and I love it. Have no clue what it is called .

I love my elephant ears also and think I may be adding some to my back yard this fall for the summer.
As far as food I tried to start a garden but my dogs ate it !
Off to water the garden again! Have a great Sunday.

Yes another holiday that we got to enjoy as a family. My baby H turned the big 9 years old.An not a big cake fan so daddy got to make her brownie Sundays! yes I said daddy . We also had the family here both sets of grandparents. Life doesn't get better than that.

I went into th night gig this week and found this from the bosses . Yes I also think it was very cute!

I love the plastic glass and could so totally see a forth of july shindig with these as favors. LOVE IT!

This has been sitting in my draft folder cause I just couldn't get it together. Hope you had a great holiday. No off to blog my next subject!

Singing in the Rain

In the last few days there are decisions that have needed to be made and so on. Winds of change can be like a CAT 5 hurricane blowing thru life with doors opening and deciding which need to close. Clinging to simplicity can be tough but well worth it . When the calm after the storm comes you can breath again and say "wow what a ride! "
And even though as parents we think that we have the hardest part of being responsible but lets look at it for a few seconds thru the kids eyes . They get to stand by, feel the changes but have their hands tied . So they do what they do best in their minds . Give healing hugs and lots of love!
So in return they need to let their hair down , not worry and be kids.

No it isn't head for the hills.

I have no excuse , I have just been busy , tired and not feeling like doing anything that wasn't a necessity . We had the end of school for 5 kids. One of whom has entered the world of adult hood!

I had my mom here for a few days! We got to take her to the beach for only her second or third time in her life.This picture below is three generations of SMITH women!

I started to knit a tank top that I tore out and am going to restart over the weekend. I have been peeking in at all of your blogs hoping there was something to pull me out of my funk. I have started to loose site of my favorite S words also , Simplicity, Solitude and Spirituality. But I have acknowledged this and I will whip back into shape. Part of what is get back there was reading this blog and oh my word did it hit home. A new door opened in my life which is always a welcome but damn the wind coming from it is like a uphill battle which is well worth it all in the end! SO with the help of my best friend listening to me wind and the group of wonderful ladies I surround my self with All Is Good.

But I can't wait for the time in life when things are as simple as above again!

The Lake

Oh so much has happened in a few weeks. Both teens got their permits woo hoo. School being done is sneaking up on us big time. Craft projects that are screaming to be done. My oldest graduating high school. My next to the oldest got a job. I am still appreciating having work and be thankful with what I am surrounded with. I must admit when I write these things out I become even more thankful. Still always trying to take a few minutes for solitude and simplicity. I really need to start getting up way early also so I can go to a summer schedule and work some before the kids get up. We did take sometime this past weekend with family visiting and went to the lake!We also hit up the local little carnival that pops around once a year.
In this strawberry sits the seeds of next generation of independent women.(AKA_G, H, N).

The cotton candy was the kids. The funnel cake was all mine.

Today is one of those BLAH kind of days and I would so rather blog and read blogs than work. I recentely found a new blog that I love and check frequently A Beach Cottage. She has some of the greatest yard sale and flea market finds just like my girl Ann. Boy that makes me jealous LOL. When I was upstairs cleaning the other day I did show some love for some of my second hand stuff and here are two pics.

So lookie, lookie, another post so soon!Since the last blog I will tell you I did nothing creative until today and I am still over flowing with the need to make something. They said the weather was suppose to rain all weekend which I was kind of hoping for but No only here and there showers.

But last Saturday was spent at the beach and can I say how much I love the beach. My mind suddenly clears, Peace surrounds me, and I can breath through my nose.
As for the crafty side of life all I have for you is food. Not to pretty to look at but boy did they taste great!

Above are homemade strawberry muffins . I hate to waste food and Wanted to get the strawberries used so I made treat/easy breakfast for the gang.
Than I had to make chocolate cupcakes with pink icing.

Tomorrow I have more cleaning to do and decluttering. I am still heading toward getting back to simplicity and solitude.Some of my new favorite words are all beginning with S.

Where Have I Been

And what have I been doing you ask?
Thanks to my sister of the soul,
So many good reads out there and I have my girl to thank for exposing me to something I long ago forgot to take the time to due . Breath and enjoy. Its funny cause a few of these I probably would of looked over and never gave a second though. An three gave me an important message that I keep forgetting to bury in my heart and mind. Not just my mind. What is that? You want to know what enlightened me? I was reminded to enjoy today , when I am in prayer I don't need the answers to come right away, and to enjoy what is in the present. Reality in parenting is hitting home as my second child got his first job on his own and my oldest is going to be graduating high school. Although I live about 400 miles from my family and miss them dearly I realized something ,this alone time (as in having no friends and working from home making is hard to make any) has been a blessing to an extent. I have gotten to listen to myself and realize what my true likes and dislikes are. What will make Ann happy. Taking the time to pick up a book and looking around and realizing what steps I am and need to take to get back to simple. I have been back to where I am comfortable religion wise which when I leave on my day of worship I feel a weight being lifted. I want to focus on meditation and also get back to taking care of my body. I take things for granted like the having the rest of my life with the kids and getting down to business (i.e. cleaning , running around, and work) . An yesterday while the carpets were being cleaned and all the furniture was pushed against the kitchen island my little dog decided to go fishing for my daughters fish and run away with it. The fish lived to all you animal lovers out there and yes it made me mad but than it hit me. Oh my word how funny it was. As in crazy funny.
So here are my books that I read and Eat Pray Love is a must read.

These were all super reads. I still find myself longing for the Twilight books.I will be ordering more books over the weekend woo hoo. To do my little part in the "Green" I have been buying them used. I love it cause I can get more for the money and they have been in great condition. Well the weather is beautiful. Night is here and much cooler. I shall be off now and enjoy the evening . Have a great night. I really hope to be on here again before the weekend it up.

A day of sun

Well I am going to admit I got sucked into those bad bad books. Come on most of you know what I am so talking about!Yes yes that's rights Twilight. I have been a 18 year old girl who is in love with a vampire for the last week and loving every minute of it. I also watched the movie which was great but NO WHERE near as good as the book .

So while the girls were riding their bikes I sat outside in the warm sun reading . Of course my Irish behind is pretty sun kissed right now.

Welcome Spring

You know last weekend it poured for days . My yard was a lake , muddy dog feet and light rugs don't go well. But on the pro side there was some reading , a lot of cleaning and a little blog reading. This weekend a lot of sun and temperatures about 65 degrees. So the yard was cleaned and seeded again . Kids played on their bikes and I knitted two tiny bunnies. While I was in the yard I was greeted by my sure sign of spring.
Two of the girls G and H learned how to ride their bikes today also ! Woo Hoo!
Daddy was the man . Another milestone accomplished .

Happy Spring to all. I am so excited to be back to flip flops, longer days and the sun on my face. I don't mind the rain either as long as there is beautiful grass in the yard in a few weeks. That is my excuse and I am sticking to it. What a busy two weeks and my laptop power cord is broken so I was putting off blogging . Let me tell you I talked my self into the using the kids computer only because my heart kept telling my brain that my creativity was going to explode every where . Well since the last time I blogged lets see what has went on around here. My oldest child turned 19. WOW that time flew. She spent her birthday with her friend out and about with her friends. While she was in school I did get these cupcakes made though for her. Than I realized how much these colors rock together. and now I want some beachy candles and throw pillows to match the icing LOL. How is that for getting inspired.Oh and I am trying not to make the whole cupcake thing a hobby. I have so many crafts that I want/need to attempt but I have been trying really hard to KEEP IT SIMPLE. I do enjoy the kids eating home made much better than store bought and I personally thing they do taste better that way.

But right before her birthday we got hit with yet another 2 inches of snow over some wonderful frozen rain and while that was happening I threw some yarn on the old needles and made this. An let me tell you how much I love aplcha and natural yarns. It was so soft and warm . To bad she probably won't get to sport it again till next winter.

An in an effort to keep spring close we got these tooooo cute flip flops from out favorite Asian store. Well I am off for now and have a wonderful night !Sorry this blog isn't as neat and tidy as it could be but it just seems to fighting every step of the way .

Valentines Day till now!

Well being married to a chef is OK but not what most people think . You never have them home on most holidays, and if and when they do cook you get the mess to clean up cause chefs don't clean up after themselves. Oh by the way a word to the wise , always make sure they turned off the oven and stove!
On valentines day my fridge was over flowing with strawberries and heaven forbid I am letting them go to waste. So my babies woke up to this for breakfast and they made such a fuss. It is so nice that something like this can make them feel special .

I really have been trying to keep life simple and teach the kids that small things rock . So for valentines day together we made these,
My son J who is 16 had his girlfriend over and she arrived with this master piece ,
It is so refreshing to see their are still 15 year old girls who love to bake and cook and ask for recipes. A talk about good. I loved the cherry , yes cherry icing on the cake . Brittany is a sweetie and the cake was enjoyed by all. Even the chef.
Later in the day we took a ride to enjoy the 70 wonderful degrees. Included in the ride was these two .As you can see even the pets admire the warm sun.

As we were driving we went past a old house that stands alone .
So many questions fly through my mind. Who lived there? How many kids were raised in it? What crafts were made there? Pets? Small and modest is what it was all about . Though I couldn't imagine living in that house with all my kids and dogs I have to admit I admire the life I formed in my mind for this little house. How can you not love this little place. I think if i was blessed with a house like this on my land I would have to restore this.
Hope you are all giddy with the hopes of spring around. Soon to be wrapped in warmth of the sun on our shoulders and kids wearing themselves out playing!I am off to enjoy the rest of the evening with the girls watching the Tinkerbell movie. It is a must see even for us big girls.Makes me miss Disney so much .

Hurry Spring Hurry

Since it snows here like this once every ten years there are no sleds. So back to simplicity and living out of necessity we used a rubber maid container lid . 7 inches of snow was not stopping 4 kids with the stomach virus from hitting the hill in the yard. Even if it was for one trip down with a dog running behind. Of course I didn't get to use my video camera since everything in the town was closed. EVERYTHING!

Now the kids are healthy. I am not so missing winter and snow . Especially since it has been in the 30's here. I would be more than willing though to brave the cold for a cheese steak . Better yet from Pat's , Geno's or Steve's.

Other than snow and sick kids life has been moving along. I finally finished "The Mermaid Chair" . What a accomplishment it is. I remember the days I read books constantly and seemed to of lived in a book store. I really enjoyed it . I was at target today and thrilled to see the patio cushions out and waiting for my backyard. I am so glad 70 degrees will be back here come Sunday.

Hey Friends

Hope all is well. It has been pretty busy around here still. But my quiet drives to pick up that kid and drop off this kid gives me some time for inspiration. Or maybe it is just the quiet where I can hear my soul talk to me. Like the other day driving through my area that I have been having some difficulty adjusting to. Quality of life. Quality and simplicity is in my reach with some work I will get there. Needs are met and a happy family is what we should be aiming for. If you have some side money for the craft store or a want than so be it!

I did get to finish a pair of fingerless gloves. I also done a baby doll sweater. All the while watching my youngest battle stomach virus. Poor little mama.

I can't think of a new project I want to knit. Nothing on the top of my head. I did get these yarns in what’s called a stash builder at a cute yarn store in Bryson City. What a great little town. Any idea on what these pretty colors should become? I have my embroidery bag also in my face waiting for me to start a project out of a great book. Amiee Ray can inspire anyone. Her Etsy shop makes me want to go broke LOL. Ann while you are reading this yes they are your coasters in the corner that will be on the way to you this week. XXXmy heartXXX.

Next month I am going to start knocking out Christmas gifts here and there. Even the gift certificates. It is so scary not know who could close in the next year and totally loose that gift cert.

Happy New Year and Merry Christmas!
I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays and is sad to see the spiritual non-money spending part gone. To be honest I have been feeling pretty defeated. Just a couple of life's things that blind side us . But with the New Year I am starting off positive.

O-Obscenities and their place in my vocabulary (but they are becoming less used)

Q-Quiet which doesn't happen often but when it does it is like a Christmas all over again.

This was just one of the pictures I tried to get for Christmas cards . When I look at them and see the ages of the kids I just hope and pray that my gang doesn't try to get out of taking the family pictures but the group grows instead as far as my kids beginning their own lives.
My biggest kid of all just had to climb up and play with the steering on the train.
I had to also add a picture of our main street. The whole thing burnt down many years ago and this is what is rebuilt so far.It still amazes me (the big city girl with buildings that touch the sky)that now I call this down town .
An last picture is this Victorian house located right off main street. It is in beautiful condition. Well loved. I just know my best friend would be head over heals with this house.
More often than not I miss home in the worst way but I take a little drive and learn to appreciate this little town more and more.

Celebrated a Birthday

How bitter sweet when your baby . The last baby gets another year older.
I was sitting in bed the night before N's birthday and a thought hit me like a truck . Out of bed I went and down stairs to get my camera. I just had to get a picture of my baby."What was the occasion" you ask. It was the last time that I would be putting my 5 year old to bed. The last time she will go to bed as a five year old . It brought a tear to my eye.
But as you can see with that smile that six didn't come soon enough.
As any good little girl / mommy she took her favorite present from her mom mom and stripped it to check the diaper. Than decided to name her Bell. A bond has been formed. Bell and her mommy are very happy together . THANK YOU MOM MOM

And at last here is some eye candy that I can't get off my mind. I need these magazines bad . The first I found by accident and is called Where Women Create. One of my favorite people to read on is featured in it and I have got to find the magazine again . Of course when I went back to pick it up they were all gone. An I did peek in this one while there and I must say there is a ton of eye candy to fill the soul.
I have been trying to get the holiday stuff done and I am sure most of you are just as busy with the same . Having the thoughts of the economy on our minds hurts . Knowing there are so many people facing different struggles. I realize that there are a few people that read my blog with different beliefs but while I was reading some of my favorite blogs today I came across this blog . An we have a few things going on here at home and this verse hit the spot.

Hello and hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving . Hope everyone ate as well as I . I know my best friend did. We had family arrive on Wednesday and Thursday hooked up a traditional American thanksgiving dinner along with Laos food . Good stuff , good stuff.
We got our tree up on Wednesday and decorated . As you see the cute wooden block is a music box and our new ornament for the year. I love it and it plays "I'm dreaming of a White Christmas ". What a pretty song.
I took Ah (aunt in Laos) out shopping 4:45 am Friday morning and I really wasn't feeling the sales at all. Next year I am going with online only probably. I got my inlaws done and sent them home with their gifts so when we go to visit the car isn't crazy packed. I filled out my Christmas card tonight and am going to work on a few projects tomorrow for a few people . I love making a hand made ornaments especially when my girls have glitter colored fingers. I did listen to Christmas music and missed my mom being here. She adds something to any holiday and tries so hard to help and get her fingers dirty . But we all know that she loves washing dishes.

My blog so I can situated life on it if I want to !

I have had the same on my plate I am sure that many others have. Holiday craziness. Parent hood craziness. Trees falling in my path , but I climb over and move forward. Holidays are always stressful not only for me but for sure plenty of people I know, not counting people I don't. The same motions that many of us go through every year . An many of us ( me me me) say that next year I will be ready for it . Than all of the sudden [smack , crash, boom, bam, ] the holidays are here again along with stuff we may or may not be blind sided by.
Since the age of 30 (which I will never get any older than) self realization has been amazing, scary and comforting. I know where I need to be and following the signs on how to get there. The signs didn't mention how steep the climb was . There are days where you just rest on the cliff and than there are days that you put your thoughts aside and think about the world and realize some people have a worse climb. I was on my way to go pick up the boy from drivers ed. I turned on the radio and here what sounds like a ad/holiday fund raiser for something. Than I heard a woman's voice and she was talking about her child's fight with cancer. Than I thought to myself it could always be worse . Than I was at mass and it was about using your talents for good to help make a better world . Which includes being a good friend , sister , mother etc. With all of these lights going off over my head I could lite the largest Christmas tree. Getting back to simple has been hard . How is getting rid of baggage (that we occurred during the way ) stuff that we don't need, love or want be so time consuming to go through and get rid of?How can one bit of spiritually baggage , jealously , anger, or hurt turn into such a cancer and rapidly make things so distorted and how learning to forgive and forget is like cleaning a dirty window and allowing the sunlight back in . See ! My mind has been doing a lot of work and getting ready for in laws and deep cleaning has been great for the soul.

Now I am going to list a few thing that I want
1. I want my kids to be there for each other. I know they will argue and sometimes fight but at the end I want the to support and guide each other.
2. I want them to have a open but strong mind. Listen to other people and take from them what they need to grow but keep their own beliefs , thoughts,and opinions.
3.I want to try to teach them to be strong and and independent. To understand that at the same time they can cry and curl up in mommy's bed till the sun shines again.
4. a sewing machine

6.getting better organized.

1. Everyday I wake up with my gang to take care of.

I am just rambling along here but it has been a while since my last blog . So let me say thanks for hanging in and reading . Now I want to share something I am so proud of. I never hang pictures on my walls. This is my third home that i have owned and i never hang pictures. But some how , some way I had some framed and sitting in the corner of a room . I figured out where I wanted to hang them (very difficult task) and some how so way this beautiful little corner came about in my family room. I am over the top proud of myself.Notice my side table . It has all knitting stuff and my cameras in it. I guess this is my corner LOL.

Crazy Cool and Comfy

Let me first say Happy Birthday to my J. He turned the big 16 and boys get really jipped man. No sweet 16 and he refused a party . It was cool though hearing his cell ring and his great friends calling and wishing him a Happy Birthday . It is also amazing how I know exactly what I was doing 16 years ago on that very day.An even though he had a good amount of hair when he was born it doesn't compare to the curls on the kid's head now .

In between the glorious day of celebrating the boy's birthday and my last blog we headed west . Road trip to the Great Smoky Mountains. This was the hubby's and girls first time in the mountains , the first time they hiked 4 miles and the first time they woke up on the day to come home and said they didn't want to leave. It was beautiful . The cabin was tiny and perfect. the cutest decorations. The view was amazing. The pictures below was my view from the porch .An even though it was a tad bit chilly in the morning and at night I did get a cup of coffee in the morning with the dogs . It is amazing what sitting there in the chill can prepare you for. We were on the go and I was ready . By time we got home with the kids we were all good old fashion tired . The feeling like when we were kids and could play outside all day , come in bath and not remember hitting the pillow.

Where we pulled up and parked by the cabin there were these pretty roses growing that I had to get a picture of. Roses remind me of two things , My mother's pretty name and the love my Best friend has for her mother. Roses = Ann. I thought I would try a setting other the auto with the camera since reading alittle in the book after 10 months LOL. Well I hope you enjoy the pictures for now. Big Busy Week

Ok I know every week I say I am going to blog more but things have been so crazy . But no matter how crazy my Favorite base ball team won the world series for the first time since 1980. The Philadelphia Philles my home town team. This is a pic my BIL took for me while he was there . Thank you peter!
Than we had Halloween . For the first time in 18 years didn't go out for Halloween . Here is a picture of N , G and H . Please keep in mind that full costumes were purchased but having girls they put on the parts they liked @@.
I have to say that I hate all the candy . I love everything about this time of year but I am not liking the candy part of this holiday at all . We are out of here for a few days .

I have some eye candy for you today along with a great find . I always read about the lucky people who find the best treasures and let me tell you I am a lucky one this time.I found it at the Antiques Thieves market in Raleigh Nc.

This basket was never used. Everything in it was sealed until my girls got a hold of it . Yes that is G behind the basket with the "take my picture with it but pretend I didn't realize". Us girls are so excited getting to use this. Believe me even a picnic in the back yard will from now on call for the picnic basket!

Here is the eye candy for you . I love the color orange . No not any orange but the color that follows.

These are my Pelee mums . I just love them . I bought two for outside the house and can see a lot more gardening being done with them .

Veggie Eatens

Hey all,
Don't faint over a second post in days. I wanted to share a few more pictures with you of some of our vegetarian meals. We have been cutting down on the meat intake. But I don't think I will be ever get ride of it totally. We shall become healthier with what we do eat !

Veggie ribs and let me say they are so good. They taste like boneless BBQ ribs.
An tonight's dinner was veggie lasagna. My body thanks me . I really hope to get a garden going next spring just for our salad stuff. It would so rock walking out back and just taking what we need for dinner and not having to worry about pesticides and hormones .

Blue Belated Blog

No this isn't going to be a sad mushy blog except for the fact that I seem to get very home sick EVERY FALL!But to cheer myself and kiddos up we made some of these.

Chocolate chip and pumpkin cookies and muffins . Let me also say that the muffins where the best. The recipe called for pumpkin spice to be added and OH MY WORD. It made that much of a difference.
A trip to our lake here with the puppies so the girls could feed the ducks so bread that I didn't want to throw in the garbage could be put to use and not left in a land fill for many years. You know my Seamus sits so nice and he watches the ducks making sure they don't get to close to the girls. Maddie on the other hand (the tiny one) has to bark and bark . My word what a typical woman.

The following is the reason why blue is mentioned in the title .I am digging the blue roses.
I also hit a wonderful deal at target yesterday . I was so excited to find a Rachel Ashwell shabby chic bath rug. Marked down from $40 to $9 . And it matches my shower curtain. I think this bathroom may also be getting a coat of paint soon .

This is my down stairs bath . I would love to have it so I could decorate it out for the seasons.
Things are moving along and we are getting excited over the holiday season. My daughter H discovered American girl dolls so her Christmas list it done. I think I actually may go this route for her because I know that baby will be loved. I think I am going to start doing the gift card shopping because we know they aren't going up for sale.
I still haven't finished the baby sweater that I have been working on but only a sleeve and a half are waiting for me. I really wish I had someone to knit with this way I would get projects done. Well have a good couple days and hope to blog again real soon .

Harvest of Sorts

Hello all . Wanted to pop in and let everyone know were are moving right along here. These days always seem so busy anymore. So crazy and never enough time.
Well before Tropical storm Hannah arrived we harvested the only thing we grew this year! Our Thai peppers woo hoo .

Than I got to throw my very first sweater on my needles for a friend who is having a little girl soon.
An after the rain was gone my dogs decided it was ok to go outside again

You can see the lovely mud paw prints. My Seamus thinks it is cute to give me something daily to clean besides the normal stuff.
An Sunday was opening of football season and as you can see the home team was playing and thanks to season ticket we were ready in our gear. Yes we have a buffet every sunday just for our family (so no one has to cook ). Fly Eagles Fly!
It gets me so excited that the fall is here and this weekend I plan on getting the baking done. An think of a list of handmade gifts . Maybe I will even be able to get my kiddos to write their Christmas list.My sweet H loves Polly Pockets and was on eBay looking at the lots there. She informed me that used toys are good cause they are being recycled. What a baby tree hugger.

Fall Frenzy

Let me tell you since moving to the south I have never longed for fall more. Especially fall back home with changing leaves and the smell of fire places. Hot coco, everything pumpkin , and school being back in session . Do I miss my kids you ask ? Why of course I do . What safer place than in mothers sight. But let me tell you trying to work with 5 kids home is a workout in its own right.

So today I am sitting here thinking fall and all I want is the taste of pumpkin and the color orange.
This is were my search engine ran pulled up for me today , Muffins.I think I will be making the pumpkin chocolate chip, whole wheat, apple and what ever else tickles my fancy. They just look so go and I love the way people help you in their comments with how to add the apple sauce instead of all the oil and so on . I do need to figure out why it always says white sugar though. I never keep the stuff in the house.

School is back and I have M graduating and N starting school . Not a tear in her eye .But I do think I saw one in daddy's eye. It did break my heart but this is the first time in 18 years I am home with out a child.

Yes they pick out their own clothes and Yes I have to approve. Never thought I would see my kiddos is 80'S clothing.
As far as knitting goes I will be finishing off the washrags that were requested from a family member and mailing them out. Than I have some yarn that I fell in love with that has been waiting for me to make it useful I may be making a shall out of . All fall colors . Oranges and browns just makes me so happy .
I am ready to start altering some Christmas gifts to . I am going to have to remind you all how man days left till Christmas.

I think now I may sit and thing of what gifts I can whip up . WOO HOO !

Started and Done

OK people I have to show off G's tank that is finally done and just fits her LOL . I think it is very cute and she loves it so that is what matters. With a touch of OCD here it never looks good enough to me.

Than I also paint these frames to match larger frames I have . To put along the top of it I painted the letters for FAMILY and will have to alter them sum which may take some time. I will blog when they are done.

A little on the serious now . I am not a Oprah watcher for two reasons 1. I don't have time and 2 I just can't get into some of the stuff she talks about.
Well she did a show on America's poor and how heart breaking. Just a little request that we remember them in our prayers (no matter who you may be praying to )and instill in family that they have plenty with just necessity.

Well we are home from Philly. It is always good to visit home when you get to do the things you love. I got to have dinner with my darling daughter and a friend who I haven't seen in about 4 years. We got to spend time with our families there which is always great. My girls love seeing all their grandparents than I hear how much them miss them the whole way home and a few days to follow. We also got to go to the Phillies game. I love the atmosphere at home games. It has been said that were are the worst fans but we do have the best food. I did have a Philly pretzel and cheese steak . It was so good and i am not touching the scale for a few days. I didn't get to knit much because we drove up at night and home I only had a few hours so did what i could than . I didn't work on graces shirt but I did start my Mother in laws washrags she is so patiently waiting for. I hope you all had a great weekend. An enjoy the pictures below.

Hello Friends

Here is a weekly update. I hate weekly updates . I should be able to blog often but with kids , work and life I haven't found time. I am going to also have to learn how to do quick blogs from my phone for when I am out and about. You know I will be the first to admit that my family is human and far from perfect but I would be so happy for little things like :
1. putting the brush away when your done
2. putting the kitchen scissors away when you use them
3. 30 minutes a day to craft
4. kids not being sneaky and saying little mean things to the other. (yes they were raised better than this ).

Well my Aunt , Cousin(baby mama) , and baby cousin (baby) were here for a few days and it was a nice visit.

Needless to say we are loud group together . Just wish my mom could of been here for the girl time. My aunt also does these collages and she made me this and I can't wait to get it hung up .
Just remember Aunt H the conversations we had I heard you and took your advice and input!I hope you had a good time.

Ok on to my next topic of realization . Why am I after all these years in life starting to like color. I am a black white and brown girl. Well for some reason I caught myself admiring these party bags and seeing beautiful ribbon , fabrics and rocking scrapbooking papers.
I love the green and orange has been a second runner up to my brown . The patterns are so sweet.
I am still working on G's shirt and knitting has been on the back burner this summer with the kids home . I have so many craft projects I would love to do but there will be time when the winter is here and we aren't running around as much . I did get to good old Michael's and picked up some of the stuff I need for embroidery and can't wait to start one of those patterns. Yes I will post them here for all to see.

Camping!

Ok people this is as close to camping my family probably will ever get with out running water . An I am ok with that . Though I will admit I left it up to dear old dad and will be sleeping in my own bed LOL.

But I did advise my husband that this is a memory he is making for the kids to have always. An by 10:15 H came in and advised me "there is no way she is sleeping in the heat!"

Next is another digi page I did over the weekend. It was for H's birthday . It is so funny having two the same age for 6 weeks. An the sparkler picture she took !

An last I was out with my son over the weekend and he told me that "I look disturbingly young for my age". I told him he was my favorite for the time being LOL.
I am still working on G's tank top but I will be sure to get pictures up for you . I also need to find the coolest ribbon to go with it .

You know like many I have some favorite blogs and they are located to the right. These blogs I check everyday and I haven't gotten to look back on one so my goal for my Friday night being the mom of many was a glass of wine and check Messy thrilling out from the beginning. I need to figure out how to do this . Make every birthday a day to remember . Not just another birthday . I always had hopes my kids would be surrounded by family but with the miles between just doesn't seem to work out that way . I have three birthdays in November and December so a possible trip around than would be great. But don't get me wrong just something cool not extravagant. Than we have three birthday in July and August and maybe another small trip there would rock .Than there is my oldest daughter M who is in the spring so I am going to rack my brain on this. I am going to make sure there is a homemade card and words that mean something also for these occasions.

Ok now lets get to the link. Aimee Ray is amazing , talented and inspiring. She makes me want to grab a sketch book (which I haven't picked up since about 1997 and get to work on my own stuff.

A Craft Addict's Birthday

Hello ladies I celebrated my birthday and wanted to share my gifts with you all. Thank you for the warm birthday wish . I love being in my 30's and can only hope that the 40's well be as wonderful. I have to say that I knew nothing about myself until 30 came and I have been in the learning Annmarie process ever since. I am a pretty cool cat from what I can see so far!
So as for my surprises let me show yous (yes this is a word in Philadelphia) .

This beautiful bracelet is made of Connemara Marble.
I actually own a set of earrings and beautiful necklace made with this marble in it and rumor has it that when the vein runs dry there will be no more of this marble anywhere.Thank You mommy!
From my dearest Ann I received these beautiful flowers . The smell fills my house from these beauties. An the vase my wind up being the house for my knitting needles when done cause it could never be put away .
Than there came a package containing these beautiful crochet wash rags . They just make me yearn to have hands the crochet also . These will make a home in my bathroom .
Yes and miss super talented made this dragonfly embroidery for me. For those of you who may not know I absolutely love dragonflies .
Than to add to my craft addiction the book I posted about and my newest toy she sent a loom and 100 skeins of embroidery floss . I have so many ideas running through my head I can't wait to get started . I just may have to go to Michaels this week and do a little shopping.

Yes the girls named them on their own and it brought a tear to my eye!
I also received one of those foot stools turned table and storage from my Brother and family and love it. That made a home in the loft and is now filled with Philadelphia eagles blankets.
An the movie I boycotted in one of my previous post I will now admit I broke down and now have the sound track .

Ok this post is more like a enabling session
Let start with my cute new shoes I bought for 12.99 at payless and made by American Eagle . An yes I got them in the black .

I also went to the local Asian market today and found these cute lunch boxes that also come with silverware and are metal on the inside. I love them and want them just for travel . They wouldn't be ideal for kids to take to school but scream road trip.
I also have to show you my favorite pattern on plates they have there. I so would love to own this whole set including the big bowels with the lids that go with it. An take notice to the little what ever sugar jar type thing . LOVE IT!
Last and least I was at Kohls.
An I accidentally came across these wall art things. I have been eying them up for years. The price online was cheaper than at the store. The selection on here was better also . So I hope you enjoy my pop in for the day .

An All Over the Place Blog!

I have pictures and update for you all .
This is my daughter G's tank that I just started on the back . I used cotlin yarn and it is nice stuff. They have so many colors and I was thing how pretty some patterns would be for wash cloths and how nice it would lay with a few sweaters for the cooler weather here.I got the pattern out of bare foot knits . An if you have any little ones around up to the age of about a size 10 . This book is a must have.

I also figured I would show off some my plants from my pseudo garden,

This elephant ear just unraveled and it was this HUGE. I love them and plan on adding more to the back yard.
The flowers on this bush are so heavy thanks to the fact that we are actually getting rain . I love the dragonflys that hang around from it. Thought to self I really need to find out the names of my plants LOL.

I also noticed that in this pot this one flower bloomed so much darker than the rest and had to giggle to myself when I explained to it not to worry cause I was the one how always seemed alittle different in the family to !

I watch P.S. I love you last nigh. Let just say that no movie has the right to make me feel so many emotions at one time . I also think I may have to get the sound track for this one to . The CD looks pretty good . I will never watch this movie again only because it pulled my heart strings that much . Ok maybe not until one of those girly nights happen .

July 4th weekend stuff !

Happy July 4th weekend all . I love love love to celebrate this holiday almost as much as Christmas . Our holiday starts on July 3rd around here due to one of my little girls birthday .
We always have a filled holiday with her birthday cake after dinner than off to the fireworks in our town . I never realize how many people are in our small town until we try to get a good parking spot . But that is ok because the excitement on the kids faces is so worth any little inconvenience. We hit some of the giant blow up type rides , listen to the orchestra than as soon as the sun is ending the day we are laying on blankets and watching the fire works.

My Inlaws were also here for a visit and they are from Laos. That means two woo hoos cause I got to eat one of my favorite soups that my hubby cant make and mom made is so if my hubby could make it , it could never be as good as moms LOL. I would add the name of the soup but I really don't want to mess it up so after I call her I will add the spelling
An last was some time spent at the beach . It was crowded for what we are use to down here but nothing compared to back home

Simplify

This is exactly what I have been doing. Trying to get back to a simple life.Less to take care of and appreciate all that have been crowded . I knitted a few of The House Helpers .I made wash rags a while back for the kitchen and wanted to make these for everyday cleaning . I love being able to wash them and not have to use paper towels. They clean everything so well .

I have been decluttering my craft items and have some scrap booking paper to try to sell that I know I won't be using any time soon and set aside some to send to my best friend over here .
She is a wizard with decorating and a crafty mama , not to mention to have her in your life makes you remember why some branch out of the family for such wonderful people. I had received some unexpected news and she listen , gave her opinion and filled my mail box with this. The doodle stitch book . Of course as soon as I get what
I need she will be the first to get a surprise.

I also got the chance to do a digi page from the beach last weekend. I love the fact everything is in the computer and I have no mess when I am done.

Last and least let me tell you about a good buy. I purchased these little plants for a planter on my patio. I have no flowers in the ground because of two puppies who like to eat them . Well after pulling Maddie out of the pot a few times I thought my little guys who were one stem big would never make it. But to my surprise look how they have grown .

Finally a Post!

Thank heavens for thunder storms that give you the five minutes to post. Hope you all had a productive week . I got out and got my Mrs Meyers cleaners (lavender scent). It is a joy to clean with a smell like that left behind and that is what I have been doing all day . I also bathed miss Madalyn and she is never happy about it.

I also got to Bed Bath and beyond and was able to finally pick up the old fashion tea towels that are begging for a knitted trim and embroidery . I Love when you can find stuff to use and not just leave it around for show.They are so long and wide I can make kid's sarongs or even smaller pillow cases easily. I have also been trying to knit these cute helpers for my house but every time I get to the second part someone yells mom and I mess up somewhere , so when I am done here off to my third try.

Than of to the thrift store today because I needed, Yes needed a silver tray for my coffee table . Not just for show but to put candles on I plan on purchasing this week. I am really trying to bring in blue earth tones to the family room . Kind of beachy . My family loves the beach .

I also have to say how wonderful it is to have a
great farmers market and that my kids don't
waste any of the fruit we get there. The prices are
great and we get to help out the local economy .

Hot Saturday

This blog may be a ramble but its ok. I haven't gotten the large furniture that i need for the house yet. I am a little cheap and hate to spend the money but I really should get it so I can stop thinking of a million and one ways to get organized. I got my palm centro and I am so glad , the upgrade was badly needed . I want to digi scrap tonight but the 100 degree heat here is making us all sleepy. I have been catching myself looking around the house for things to get rid of . Kind of the do I need stuff type of feeling. Everything is cleaned but my floors need a hand scrub. I hate mops , I just don't feel like they do the job . Hopes of bamboo dance through my head. Now the color , hhhmmmm decisions decisions.I want to make a trip to my local thrift store tomorrow to look at silver trays for the house.I also am going to be saving to get rid of my carpets down stairs. I have been using the green works products but I think the next time I am going with Mrs Meyers. Just the thought of the lavender one makes me so happy.Not that the green works isn't great but the smell just isn't for me. I also bought a dome to do a beach theme in but no pics yet cause I have to put the finishing touches on it. I also want to add to my white vases . I really wish a certain person who I am greatly fond of lived here and would help with this stuff. I also finally got to one of those Home Goods stores.I could really go nuts in there. I am thinking of getting some beachy blue throw pillows and great candles that i have been battling myself over at target.

I have been messy thrilling life blog and I really am craving a trip like hers. Either by the beach or maybe the moutains (with this heat) for a week with family , books and my cell phone. My girls have been living in the luke warm pool and I thought about emptying out my ice cube tray into it LOL.

I have a question for you gals and don't get me wrong I am not knocking on anyone but the style of clothes out there right now with the cut off jean shorts. Why OH why would someone pay so much money for them? I was looking at them today and thinking no way . Did I mention I hate clothes shopping to begin with . I am one who dresses for comfort and one of my favorite things about living in the south now is I love my flip flops and summer shoe . Plus the fact I can wear them about 9 months out of the year is even better.

I also wanted to announce that I have come to some realizations in my path (this is what life is in my mind) and I have found peace with them .
1. Just because people are family sometimes there isn't any bonding with them .
2. You can listen to people when they need to lean on you but when they aren't understanding when it comes to you thats ok. Move on and at least take pride in knowing you were there.
3. Some people in your life can be so far yet so close.
4. You don't have to be afraid to shut doors with the past .

This is a little something that I wrote as it raced across my mind in neon lights .

Paths and revelations‘.
I must say I have realized that I am not stressed but doing what everyone does and questioning the universe. When speaking to a friend I told her that I have been walking a path and am will to except anything that I come across and take my lesson , place it in my basket and move on . I was still sitting here thinking to myself about it and “a path “ the light went on above my head and another lesson was learned. I am ok , I will always be ok . The path isn’t all lessons but there is beauty along the way ! The reasons why I may get frustrated and or jealous . Plain out miserable along the way may be I have stopped on my path for two long a period of time. Weather it be to watch a wish , dwell on a loss or lack of , who knows. Things are just coming to me , this path doesn’t have to be a serious straight forward no enjoyment type of path but there are going to be big issues people issue to observe , learn from than move on .

Well here are some of my new learnings .

Boy what a half week and I'm only going to pull the positive things!
I just subscribed to a Digi scrap booking magazine and I am so excited to learn more and how to organize it all . I have been self battling not getting rid of my traditional scrap booking stuff. I can't stand seeing clutter and I really would love to have the luck of my friend ANN and find a armoire and store it all in there.

Next I have the creative bug again woo hoo and though I love to alter things I think it is time for me to maybe list some on etsy . Like a few altered canvases or something. I refuse to buy anymore until I use what I have. There are some some people on there with mad silly skills and knowing it is made but hand rocks to .

I want to get organized so bad here in the house but I need to get to the flea market and find those storage pieces .

I want to go back to Florida . I miss it , i miss my friend and her family and i wish I was living there with a pool in the back yard .

I will say I am thankful for the pool in our yard , though not a in ground it keeps my babies cool with the weather hitting 100 degrees here.

Oh the best yet is My baby boy (15 years old) is in love for the first time! An what a change in attitude. He always says he would move back home at the drop of a dime and the hubby and I were teasing him and said we were moving back and Boy all of the sudden its "I don't want to move ". She is a sweet girl though.

An last is a day trip to the shore. We usually are there several times by now but with the hubby's (working for the man) schedule we had to wait for the kids to be out of school to head down on one of his days off.

THANK YOU !

So many have left their families and lost their lives to keep us free and every morning that I wake up and have decisions to make I can't complain. At least I have choices!I hope every one had someone to thank or just in a prayer.

Well one of our choices for the past weekend was to hang at home . We cleaned the patio and put the pool up for the kids. This wonderful place we live is already hitting the high 80's .

While Miss Maddie watched (from my flower pot) she decided she was hot to . So off for a swim in her big brothers water dish!
